TL;DR
Your videos never leave your iPhone or iPad. No account, no ads, no tracking. Only the watermark purchase, model downloads and caption translation language downloads talk to a server.
The short version
Your videos, clips and edits stay on your iPhone or iPad. There is no account and no server that holds your content. The app only goes online for three things: the check on the watermark purchase (through Apple and RevenueCat), the download of an AI model (from Hugging Face), and a language download from Apple the first time you translate captions into a new language. Each is explained below.
What stays on your iPhone or iPad
Everything you make in Clipped: the videos you import, the clips it finds, their captions, titles, post captions and translations, your style and your @handle. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. Delete a project, or the app, and it is gone.
On-device AI
Clipped finds clips and writes titles, captions and post captions with AI that runs on your iPhone or iPad. You pick the engine on the Home screen: Apple Intelligence, built into iOS on supported iPhones and run on the device by Apple; an open model you download once, either Qwen 3.5 (4B or 2B) by Alibaba Cloud under the Apache 2.0 licence, or LFM 2.5 by Liquid AI under the LFM Open License; or No AI, a rule-based mode that needs no model. No video, transcript, prompt or result is sent to any server. You can delete a downloaded model at any time in Settings, under AI models.
Model downloads
Open models are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). As with any download, Hugging Face sees your IP address and the file you asked for, under its own privacy policy. Nothing about you or your videos is sent with it.
Speech and translation
Speech in your videos is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your iPhone or iPad. Caption translation uses Apple's Translation, also on the device. The first time you translate into a new language, iOS may download that language from Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. After that, translation works offline.
Watermark purchase
Removing the watermark is a one-time purchase through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your name, card or billing address. To confirm and restore the purchase, the app uses RevenueCat (revenuecat.com). RevenueCat receives the purchase record from the App Store and a random ID the app creates, which is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. It is used to unlock the purchase and to show us totals, such as how many purchases were made. It is never used for advertising or to track you.
Photos and notifications
Clipped asks for access to your photo library to import the videos you choose and to save your exports. If you schedule posts, it can remind you with notifications; they are scheduled on your iPhone or iPad, with no server involved. You can turn either off in iOS Settings.
Third-party services
Apart from Apple, RevenueCat and Hugging Face as described above, the app contains no third-party SDKs: no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking across apps or websites.
This website
clipped.cc uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits. It sets no cookies and does not identify you; visits are only counted in total.
iCloud and backups
Clipped does not use iCloud Drive or any cloud sync. If you back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud Backup or a computer, your projects may be included in that backup under Apple's privacy policy. That is between you and Apple, not us.
Children's privacy
Clipped collects no personal information from anyone, and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or the age that applies where you live).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, for example to add an optional cloud service, we will update this page and its date. We will never start collecting data from you without asking first.
